Caring for your baby
A guide to the first weeks of caring for your baby – the essential equipment, car safety and how to bath her.

Nappies
Some parents find that disposable nappies are the most convenient option for them, while others prefer to use washable nappies.
Clothes and equipment
Although it is tempting to fill your home with lots of new things, keep it simple – and don’t buy too much.
Car safety
The law states that all children, including babies, must sit in a properly fitted child seat, suitable for their weight and height, for every journey.
Bathing your baby
Your baby’s first baths can be quite an alarming experience. She’s so small, slippery and wriggly that it’s natural to be scared you’ll do something wrong.
Crying
All babies cry – although some cry a lot more than others and it’s not really clear why.
Safe sleeping
The safest place for your baby to sleep is feet to foot (with her feet at the foot of the cot) in a cot in your room for the first six months.
