Looking after yourself
Your first few weeks as a parent can be exhausting – don’t forget to look after yourself.

Coping with tiredness
Most new parents say they can’t believe how utterly exhausted they feel once they start looking after a new baby.
Changes in your body
For the first few days after the birth, you may feel really tired. If you had a Caesarean section you’ll be recovering from the operation.
How you may
be feeling
It’s perfectly normal to feel a bit down after the birth. Around 70% of all new mums suffer from so-called ‘baby blues’.
Pelvic-floor exercises
Pelvic-floor muscles are important because they help prevent stress incontinence (when you leak a few drops of urine when you cough, laugh or run).
Relationships
Having a baby is a time of great change. While all attention may be on the baby, you need to feel that you are still ‘you’.
Sex and contraception
Shortly after giving birth you may feel like you’ll never want to have sex again.
