This is when your baby actually arrives. It starts when your cervix is fully dilated and ends with the birth of your baby.

Your midwife is crucial at this stage. She will guide you through the labour, encouraging you and helping you and your partner in the last minutes before the birth.

If you and your baby need help

In some situations, an unplanned Caesarean section, forceps or ventouse (vacuum) extraction are used to assist your baby’s birth.

First moments

Soon after birth, your midwife will assess your baby’s wellbeing.
